Reception welcomes Penny!

This week we had an ‘egg-tra’ special delivery to our classroom… Reception’s very own hen! After an exciting morning of meeting the hen and finding out more information on how to look after her. We each wrote a name that we would like her to be called and then one name was fairly pulled out of a hat. The winning name was Penny! Make sure you look our for when you past the coop, she is wearing a pale pink band on her leg.

In the next few weeks Penny will be inspiring us with our enterprise. We will be selling our creations at the end of the day on Friday 20th May.

Around our World!

This term in Reception we are learning more about our world and exploring different countries. Over the past couple of weeks we have been finding out facts about the Polar Regions. We discovered new facts about the lifestyle, weather and different animals that live there. We have had lots of fun in our polar role-play and small world and also building large scale Arctic models outside. We wrote our non-fiction books about information we had found out. We look forward to finding out about Brazil and the rainforest next!

Potions day!

We have had lots of fun already this term. We have been learning and exploring potions and fireworks. We have been reading lots of different stories to help us think of our potions. We have been experimenting in our potions cave and in the mud kitchen. We have been using our counting skills to talk about the number of things that are needed for our potion and adding different ingredients together.

Thank you very much for your support on ‘Potions Day’, we all had a brilliant time. We listened carefully to different types of music and made patterns and marks to match the beat and pace of the tunes. We wrote brilliant pieces of writing about our costumes and had fun dancing together.

Our first few weeks!

We are really proud of how all the children are settling into Reception. The children are really enjoying discovery time and exploring the activities both inside and outside of the classroom. The children have picked their own play dough pot and we have started dough disco, which is lots of fun! We are very impressed with how well the children are carrying their food trays in the dinner hall and remembering to say please and thank you.

This week we have been learning all about ourselves and how to describe what we look like to a friend. We have been practising drawing a picture of our face.

Pirates!

This week in Reception we have been learning all about pirates. We have been reading lots of different pirate stories and creating our own. We have written our own treasure maps and used the Beebots to practise our directional vocabulary. We looked at real fish and described how they felt. It was exciting to have an octopus to explore. On Wednesday we will be celebrating our topic with a “Beach Day”. Please send your child into school either in pirate costumes or beach wear.

Welcome back!

We hope that you all have had a lovely and relaxing half term. We have heard lots of interesting and exciting stories from the children about the things that they have been up to over the holidays.

We would like to take the time now to say how proud we were of all the children in our recent assembly all about minibeasts. It was lovely to see them share all they have been learning about with such confidence and enthusiasm.

Thank you very much for your kind donations that helped the Early Years Team to raise £207 for the British Red Cross.
