Can you spare a little bit of time

Over the past two years the children of Norbury Hall Primary have created a varied and diverse array of outdoor learning opportunities throughout the school grounds these include two extensive wildlife gardens, a herb garden, two flower gardens, fruit garden, an allotment as well as a new orchard. All of these require an element of low level maintenance such as weeding, pruning, light digging and signage over the coming growing season. We are looking for parent volunteers who would be able to put aside a little bit of time to help. If you can put any time aside no matter how small to help maintain this wonderful outside learning area please contact myself through the school office on 0161 483  1786.  If you want to get an idea of what the children have achieved, and have a look at first hand you are welcome to come along to our Spring Big Dig on Saturday 21st March where you can have a go at planting trees, hedges and much much more, or you can follow us on the school blog; ‘outdoor learning’.

Smile, Smile, Smile…Key Strings Visit Norbury Hall

Today we had a very exciting visit from Key Strings. We found out about all sorts of stringed instruments such as guitars, cellos, the double bass and violins. We enjoyed hearing them being played and listened to songs which may have been played a long time ago when it was the First or Second World War.

Some of the instruments were even bigger than us!

We enjoyed marching along to songs and waved flags.

This is a bugle and we heard it play the last post. It was very loud!

We had lots of fun and it was all “smiles, smiles, smiles” just like the song.

‘House Welly Walk ‘

On Friday the 10th of October Reception went on a Welly Walk around the streets near our school. We have been learning lots about different types of houses (detached houses, flats, terraces etc.)and found many of these on our walk. We looked out for letters and numbers around us and named shapes we could see in windows and doors. Some of us saw our own house on the walk. We had a brilliant time and it was a lovely Autumnal day.

Welcome to Reception

We have settled happily into Reception and we are enjoying discovering our new environment. We are already becoming very independent in our morning routine; self-registering, emptying our book bags and looking after our own belongings. Every morning we have taken part in ‘Dough Disco’ and this week we have started ‘Funky Fingers’ to help get our fingers ready for writing.

Our current topic is ‘Ourselves’ and we have been learning all about the body part and our senses. Have a look at our first couple of weeks and see what we have been up to.
